Neuronal ensemble control of prosthetic devices by a human with tetraplegia

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of using neuromotor prostheses (NMPs) which aims to replace lost motor functions in paralyzed humans by routeing movement-related signals from the brain, is studied on a tetraplegic human (MN) using a pilot NMP. The results reveal that NMPs based on intracortical neuronal ensemble spiking activity can provide a valuable new neurotechnology to restore independence for humans with paralysis.

SERRATE coordinates shoot meristem function and leaf axial patterning in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that the zinc-finger protein SERRATE acts in a microRNA (miRNA) gene-silencing pathway to regulate expression of HD-Zip III gene PHABULOSA (PHB) while also limiting the competence of shoot tissue to respond to KNOX expression is presented. Thus, SERRATE acts to coordinately regulate meristem activity and leaf axial patterning.

No-nuisance noise

Article Abstract:

The effect in a doubly clamped mechanical beam of nanometre size made of crystalline silicon of high purity is demonstrated. Noise is applied to the system and a signal-to-noise ratio is computed at the applied signal frequency for a series of response-power spectra, each taken at a different noise power.
