Norway unveils design of 'doomsday' seed bank

Article Abstract:

The Norwegian government has disclosed its design for the Svalbard International Seed Vault, also called as the "doomsday vault", for housing duplicate seeds for almost all of the world's estimated 1.5 million crop strains. The vault will offer the best conditions for storing seeds, protecting them from the ravages of disasters like war and climate change.

World Bank defends efforts to curb malaria

Article Abstract:

The World Bank is accused for failing to fulfill its promise to provide funds and leadership for Africa's fight against malaria. The bank pledged to make in 2000 to make between $US300 million and $500 million available to African governments for antimalaria treatments and infrastructure, however the bank could provided not more than $150 million by 2005.

Venezuelan free-speech row goes nuclear

The treatment of a prominent Venezuelan physicist, Claudio Mendoza has generated a lot of concern among the freedom-of-speech groups. Mendoza states that he was accused of betrayal, as he did not mean any harm and he has a freedom of speech.
