Paedomorphosis affects agonistic visual signals of domestic dogs

Article Abstract:

The ancestral dominant and submissive behaviour patterns of different breeds of domesticated dogs (Canis familiaris) were analyzed to determine the relationship between paedomorphism and behavior. Increased levels of paedomorphism or retention of juvenile characteristics in Canis familiaris reduced the degree of retention of lupine 'body-language' due to alterations in the development of canine central nervous system and skeleton. Furthermore, different breeds of Canis familiaris exhibited reduced aggression and display of visual signals.

Do dogs respond to play signals given by humans?

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the use of specific actions, such as 'bow' and 'lunge', by humans to communicate play signals to labrador retrievers. The vocalization of actions increased the dogs' responses.
