Terrestrial habitat preferences of adult arroyo southwestern toads

Article Abstract:

Research shows that the endangered arroyo southwestern toad prefers sand for habitat burrowing. Preference rank differences for vegetation types were weak, but the species tends to avoid areas with tall, dense vegetation structures.

Pellet count indices compared to mark-recapture estimates for evaluating snowshoe hare density

Article Abstract:

A study assessed whether oral regress on equations performed better than the Yukon equation and whether there was concordance between pellet-based productions and mark-recapture density estimates of hares. The findings suggested that widespread pellet sampling could be used to identify areas with very low hare densities and mark-recapture methodology could then focus on higher density areas where density inferences were more reliable.

Precommercial thinning reduces snowshoe hare abundance in the short term

Article Abstract:

The effects of precommercial thinning (PCT) on snowshoe hare abundance are examined. The analysis has shown that PCT decreased snowshoe hare abundance when compared to both control and PCT with reserves (PCT-R) treatments.
