Proteolytic turnover of the Gal4 transcription factor is not required for function in vivo

Article Abstract:

A chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay used to directly observe the kinetic stability of native Gal4-promoter complexes in yeast reveals that the complex is dynamic under non-inducing conditions, and on induction, the complexes 'lock in' and exhibit half-lives, but the Gal4-mediated gene expression is not affected by the inhibition of proteasome-mediated proteolysis. These studies show that proteolytic turnover of the Gal4 transcription factor is not required for transactivator function in vivo.

An expression of interest

Article Abstract:

Serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) is an open platform for monitoring the expression patterns of thousands of transcripts in one example and lead to the discovery of novel genes. The National Institutes of Health's Cancer Genome Anatomy Project generated several SAGE human embryonic stem cell libraries and offers web-based tools to analyse the expression of genes in these libraries.

A putative stimulatory role for activator turnover in gene expression

Article Abstract:

The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) influences most cellular processes, and its target include transcriptional activators that are primary determinants of gene expression. The non-proteolytic function of the UPS might stimulate transcriptional activity and the proteolysis of some transcriptional activators by the UPS can stimulate their function.
