Slaying the crystal homonculus: The existence, or otherwise, of atoms was hotly debated for several centuries

Article Abstract:

The questions do atoms exist and what makes a crystal, became linked early in the nineteenth century, shortly after John Dalton announced his atomic hypothesis. The study of certain types of crystal was a key verification of the atomic hypothesis. Hauy's crystal dogma overturned the older Kepler, Hooke and Huygens theory, convincing the world of mineralogy that crystals could not be understood in terms of the regular stacking of spherical atoms. Eilhardt Mitscherlich discovered that the crystal forms of hydrated potassium phosphates and arsenates were identical.

Percolation frustrated

Article Abstract:

Metallurgic scientists Wang et al. believe that the frustration of percolation in de-alloying brass involves the blocking of divacancies with paired arsenic and boron atoms. Evidence suggests that arsenic and boron work together in equal quantities although exact bonding details have not been established. Further research should determine more about divacancy stuffing to establish ways of preventing corrosion in other metal alloys.

Genesis by definition

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the difficulties which arise from the study of the genesis of the disciplines of science and their placement in the history of science. The definition of a discipline is discussed.
