Telomere dysfunction promotes non-reciprocal translocations and epithelial cancers in mice

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the influence of telomere regulation and length on the development of lymphomas and sarcomas in the soft tissues of mice and epithelial cancers in aged humans.

Telomerase meets its mismatch

Article Abstract:

Cells are unable to exist without telomeres, so cancer cells produce their own telomere-generating enzyme. Studies of yeast cells show mutations in mismatch repair genes allow them to survive in the absence of the telomerase enzyme, a result that may have consequences for human cancer research.

Role for N-CoR and histone deacetylase in Sin3-mediated transcriptional repression

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to use yeast two-hybrid interaction screens and immunoprecipitation assays to identify possible effectors of mSin3 transcriptional repression function. This research has allowed the characterization of an interaction between mSin3 and the co-repressor N-CoR protein. This has been shown to be required for mSin3-mediated repression of basal transcription. It is likely that multiple co-repressors jointly prompt repression mediated by a single DNA-binding transcription factor.
