Murder in Memphis
Article Abstract:
Archaeological evidence neither confirms nor refutes Herodotus' account of the murder of a sacred Apis bull by the Persian emperor Cambyses in Memphis, Egypt, in 525-524 BC. An inscription from the sacred bulls' burial grounds indicates that a bull died and a new one was installed circa 525-524 BC, which seemed to confirm Herodotus' story. However, the inscription states that the bull was buried by Cambyses with full honors, which seemed to contradict the reported murder. However, that older bull could not be the one that Cambyses killed, as the latter would have been a young calf and the priests were said to have buried it secretly.

Hydrology - from Plato to PC
Article Abstract:
Hydrology, once the province of philosophic guessing, and later rational experimenting and observation, is now practiced with computers. The labor-saving aspects of computer usage are appreciated, but the complexities of urban hydrology may not be accurately modeled on personal computers. The use of PCs may estrange hydrologists from the fundamental concerns of their discipline.
