Article Abstract:
Czechoslovak explores glass as a medium for art and its most distinctive characteristic of post war Czech glass is its tendency toward expressive abstraction which is demonstrated in the original design drawings of the period, created in watercolor, tempera, gouache, charcoal, ink and pencil. The original designs of Czechoslovak postwar glass reflect the government's desire to project a strong national identity, attract foreign currency and look good in competition with the West.
