Effect of population size on the mating system in a self-compatible, autogamous plant, Aquilegia canadensis (Ranunculaceae)
Article Abstract:
Self-compatibility and automatic self-pollination taken together make the mating system of Aquilegia canadensis (Ranunculaceae) sensitive to variation in environmental factors that affect probability of cross-pollination, based on a study in eastern Ontario populations. The relation between outcrossing and population size was studied. The species can achieve full seed-set without pollinators, using automatic self-pollination. Parent plants were not significantly more inbred in small populations vs large ones.

Multiple paternity in Eucalyptus rameliana (Myrtaceae)
Article Abstract:
Multiple paternity in the bird-pollinated mallee tree, Eucalyptus rameliana (Myrtaceae), has been studied using six locations. Estimates of the level of multiple paternity/correlated outcrossing in fruits were made in the predominantly outbreeding population. Behavior of the pollinators promotes pollen dispersal and multiple paternity. When the female contribution to the gene pool is concentrated in few plants, this can be quite important.

The role of petal cell shape and pigmentation in pollination success in Antirrhinum majus
Article Abstract:
The role of pigmentation and petal cell shape in pollination in Antirrhinum majus, snapdragons, is discussed. Field experiments show that where polinator number limits seed-set, flowers with onical epidermal cells receive more pollinator attention than do those with flat cells.
