She was the victim of an old scam, a counterfeit cashier's check, which is growing frequently.

Bell Atlantic asks some customers to settle up by Jan. 1900

Bell Atlantic, which has not solved all of its Y2K-related problems, mailed bills to over 300 business customers with a request to pay their bills by January 4, 1900. The Y2K glitch also affected hundreds of Philadelphia residents who were instructed to appear for jury duty in January 1900.
