United, US Airways end their agreement to merge

United Airlines and US Airways Group Inc. cancelled their plans to merge in what would have been a $12.3 billion deal, just hours after the Justice Department said the merger would have violated antitrust law. US Airways' future is significant to Philadelphia, since the airline handles 65% of the 25 million passengers annually at Philadelphia International Airport.
