Canterbury tiles
Article Abstract:
The new, 8.5 million pounds sterling, Chaucer College, Canterbury, UK, brings together Western and Oriental culture in its architecture. The college, part of the University of Kent, was designed by John Partridge of HKPA to take advantage of natural and traditional materials on a sloping site. The pagoda-like roofwork is particularly notable, being of French-made clay Roman tiles. Over 200 students are housed in purpose-built residential blocks scattered around the site. The college is the UK arm of the Japanese non-profit making education organisation, Shumei Eiko Gakuen Foundation.

End of term blues
Article Abstract:
Building industry graduates leaving UK colleges and universities in summer 1991 will experience difficulties in finding employment as the recession sees more employers taking fewer recruits. Figures suggest that around 30% fewer graduates are finding jobs compared with 1990. Many students are leaving the mainstream construction industry and going into other areas, such as management. Graduates are advised to target their job applications and not to wait until they have graduated before they apply for positions.
