Dash for growth - then wait for planning consent
Article Abstract:
Planning delays cost UK businessmen 600 million pounds sterling annually. The CBI (Confederation of British Industry) has published a report Shaping the Nation: Report of the Planning Task Force to highlight problems. The CBI shows how planning decisions are delayed due to local appeals and inquiries. The CBI believes that the government needs to publish a national policy paper on land use and infrastructure for a 5-year period, backed by Treasury finance. Regional planning conferences and planning staff secondments within businesses should be introduced. The government has opposed the report.

Meeting women's needs: many women spend more time than men at home and in the local community, but their needs, in terms of transport, services, housing, health- and child-care, have been neglected by the planning process
Article Abstract:
The built environment has often not responded to women's needs but a new practice advice note from the Royal Town Planning Institute calls on all professionals to consider women's needs in terms of the planning process. It calls for the provision of local and accessible services and improving the provision and maintenance of open spaces, playgrounds and parks.
