Falling phone prices boost surfers, e-commerce prospects

The declining telephone rates in Germany is resulting in an increase in Internet use and propels the prospects of online trade. Deutsche Telekom, for instance, saw strong growth in its T-Online service, with an increase its customer base to 3.6 million during the first nine months of 1999. Meanwhile, several telecom companies are pushing for technological innovations to allow mobile phone users to have easy access to the Internet.

Seton has overcome economic difficulties in Brazil and Mexico and is now setting its sights on Chile and Argentina. The company has found a ready market for its industrial safety products in Brazil and Mexico where large manufacturing companies are located. Mailing lists remain a problem even as the company prefers to work with US-based list brokers such as Infocore, Direct Media and MMI.
