Fort Worth tornadoes pound roofs

Article Abstract:

Hail storms and several tornadoes devastated Forth Worth, TX, in late Mar 2000, causing at least four deaths and an estimated $300 million in damages. Roofing contractors have been kept busy in the area as a result. Local officials reported that 50 buildings were hit by the tornado in Fort Worth, eight of which were destroyed while 27 others sustained major damage. One tornado packing winds of 158 mph-206 mph hit the suburb of Arlington, severely damaging roughly 100 homes. Another 1,000 dwellings in Arlington received light to moderate damage.

Heating cable clears ice dams from roofs

Article Abstract:

Pacific Sheet Metal Inc Division Supervisor John Starr has suggested the use of a special, self-regulating heating cable to clear ice dams from roofs. The cable comes in convenient spools and is meter marked, can be easily and quickly installed, and protects residential and commercial property throughout the snow season. Ice dams are formed from winter storm-caused ice/snow buildups on roofs and gutters that continually melt and refreeze because of temperature changes and sun exposure.
