Master cast
Article Abstract:
Precast concrete is regaining its popularity in the UK with sales worth 40 million pounds sterling since 1994. Precast concrete is being used in a variety of new construction projects in the United KIngdom in preference to insitu concrete which is 25% cheaper. Building designs which make use of the same moulds can reduce the cost of precast concrete. The use of precast concrete can reduce time spent on a construction project and its finish is of a higher quality than other types of concrete.

Chamber made
Article Abstract:
Hotel operator Forte is looking to cut costs by adopting modular building methods. This approach has been common in the budget hotel sector for some time, but is now being taken into the three-star hotel sector. Forte reports that considerable cost and time savings can be made, and that the steel frames used in its modules give the building a very solid feel. A 30-bed extension to its three-star Posthouse hotel in Brentwood, England, cost only 28,000 pounds sterling per bedroom.

Moving targets
Article Abstract:
One third of all clients currently specify a branded product, according to research commissioned by Barbour Index. Traditionally, architects were responsible for product specification, however, building materials producers now need to identify and target the client. Housebuilders currently specify brands in 75% of all product decisions. Details of the research is discussed further.
