Sur La Table, a retailer/cataloger that sells 12,000 items in its stores, will officially roll out its new catalog called Tools for the Cook, which was tested in March 1997, in August 1998. The new catalog is claimed to be less specialized and artistic than its flagship catalog, which mails 11 times annually and ranges from 48 to 80 pages and features 300 to 600 products. Tools for the Cook will have 53 pages and will contain 1,400 and 1,500 products. Sur La Table intends to come up with a print run of 450,000 for the August issue, with 280,000 copies to be mailed and the remaining to be delivered to stores. Cataloger offers lesson in duplicity
Article Abstract:
Bloomingdale's By Mail in Waterbury, CT, has changed it name to Federated Logistics Direct to reflect its expanded operations, which now include Macy's By Mail. The center also underwent renovations, which include the expansion of its space to 270,000 sq ft and the addition of a 130,00-sq-ft auxiliary warehouse space to house its oversized merchandise. The center's computer systems have also been reconfigured to accommodate orders from both Bloomingdale's By Mail and Macy's By Mail. Under the agreement, the cost of running the center will be shouldered by both firms based on the number of transactions entered by each firm on the facility's work units.
