ValueVision reports 84% gain in TV shopping

TV shopping channel ValueVision International Inc of Minneapolis, MN, has posted a net income of $2.9 million on revenues of $76.6 million for the 3rd qtr ended Oct 31, 1999. The company had a net loss of $6.3 million in the year-ago period. The company said that the improvement was mainly due to pretax gain of $23.3 million from the sale of two television stations in Houston. ValueVision alsp posted an operating profit of $1.1 million during the 3rd qtr 1999, from a $5.2 million loss in 1998.

NBC Internet, ValueVision unveil SnapTV

National Broadcasting Company Inc and shopping channel ValueVision International Inc of Minnesotta have announced their plans to create an electronic commerce brand called Snap TV. The alliance aims to synergize the wide promotional reach of NBC's television network with the backend fulfillment of ValueVision. The partnership will also include electronic commerce site Xoom.com of San Francisco, CA, which is being merged into a proposed new entity called NBCi.

Direct marketing company American Marketing Systems of Burr Ridge, IL, has started to air the infomercial of get-rich-quick guru Don Lapre. The infomercial titled "Don Lapre's Making Money" has been released in limited markets to determine if the program can generate revenues for Lapre's bankrupt Tropical Beaches Inc. Lapre also owns other bankrupt companies including New Strategies, Don's Making Money, Dolphin Media and National Reminder Service.
