Herts goes green on industrial strategy

Article Abstract:

The 'Bright Green' environmentally-friendly industrial strategy introduced by Hertfordshire County Council links environmental sustainability with the development of knowledge-based industries. It is based on a report from Spatial and Economic Associates, which contains seven alternative 'visions' for the future of the county. The strategy could inspire other local 'knowledge-based' economies which are experiencing difficulties.

Going to town on housing: Hertfordshire has traditionally relied on developing greenfield sites for new housing. But a recent study has identified the potential for densification through 'planned regeneration' of existing urban areas

Article Abstract:

Hertfordshire CC and its 10 district councils commissioned Urban INitiatives and Chesterton, consultants, to look at ways of providing additional housing in the area. The study identified 15 character areas and the regeneration potential of each was assessed producing a variety of schemes that had potential for densification.
