Part 503 sludge management rule nears completion
Article Abstract:
The US EPA is within completion of its Part 503 regulations for municipal sewage sludge management rule which is due on Jul 31, 1992. The regulations contain five subparts, namely general provisions, land application, surface disposal, pathogen and vector attraction reduction and incineration practices. The comprehensive regulations promote beneficial use and require major changes in plant control and permit issuance.

State strategies for Part 503 implementation
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will seek to delegate controlling authority to states on Part 503 of the biosolids management rule. States will thereby be empowered to regulate the nature of restrictions imposed on biosolids generators, control pollutant concentrations, pathogen or vector attraction levels and waste management procedures.

Getting the sludge rule on line
Article Abstract:
The US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Part 503 rules for the disposal of Sewage Sludge is exhaustive. The EPA examined the result of sludge use and proved that no ill-effects were felt on health. The rules set by the EPA enhances uniformity of disposal practices, and allows for strict application of the rules.
