Paunch composting methods
Article Abstract:
E.A. Miller Inc had successfully shifted from paying for the disposal of paunch to composting paunch with a net gain of $85,000 a year after covering all operating and personnel costs. The company constructed a 1.75 acre concrete pad with an end wall for water retention. Paunch was composted in windrows. After experimentation with different types of equipment, they settled on using a straddle type windrow turner. E. A. Miller produces between 9,000 to 10,000 cubic yards of compost per year. All the compost is sold to a bagging operation for a hefty profit.
