A big business island thinks small

The Puerto Rican economy has grown steadily over the past 20 years and much of this growth is attributed to foreign investment. The displacement of local business by chain stores has resulted in the start-up of new business in communications, medical products, electronics and computing.

With 936's demise, we must focus on island's needs

Article Abstract:

The callous decision by Congress to eliminate the economic stimulus program known as Section 936 of the IRS Code, has caused outrage among Puerto Rican people. Section 936 is viewed as essential to the economic well being of Puerto Rico because it provided much need business subsidies.

In search of an identity

Article Abstract:

Puerto Rico is now adhering to a new model of business development after the country cannot obtain federal tax incentives. The key elements of the new model include privatization, facilitation and diversification. Another important feature of model's is enhancing the business climate.
