Prester John in central Asia
Article Abstract:
The legend of Prester John was first noted in the 12th century by Bishop Otto of Freising claiming that Prester John was descended from the Magi. Many of the most impressive buildings in Central Asia are directly linked to the story of Prester John. Although genuine historical characters and events mould the legend, Prester John was a solely European invention, and historically there was not one individual character who could claim to be the definitive Prester John.
