'Propaganda must be painless': radio entertainment and government propaganda during World War II
Article Abstract:
William B. Lewis, the man behind the government propaganda through radio during the World War II, successfully introduced popular comedy shows as the medium of propaganda. The Radio Network Allocation Plan went into effect from April 1942. Comedy shows, such as 'Jack Benny Show,' and 'Fibber McGee and Molly,' provided the audience with a steady dose of propaganda campaigns. The rationing of gasoline, information about the United Service Organization, were some of the propaganda voiced through the radio in America during the 1940s.
