Innovations in family support: what are we learning?

Article Abstract:

The principles involved in family support and their relevant effects on families with children-at-risk for out-of-home placements were analyzed. The family participant observation study utilized qualitative or ethnographic approaches that examined the manner by which interpersonal relations were conducted. The important issues raised in the family observations at the agency levels were correlation between informal and formal support programs, family-focused care, cash subsidies, worker roles and service integration.

On the origins of children's compliance and opposition: family context, reinforcement, and rules

Article Abstract:

The ability of children to comply with and oppose their parents is a sign of their adjustment in family and community settings. An increased likelihood of child compliance with parental instructions is evidenced by the benefit of parental responsiveness. Child compliance is influenced by the function of synchrony generated in the social exchanges between child and parent. When synchrony is high, children are apt to comply with parental instructions and vice-versa.
