The economic impact of nonmarital childbearing: how are older, single mothers faring?
Article Abstract:
Data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics were used to study the economic situation of non-teenage single mothers. The economic variables considered include involvement in the labor force, use of welfare and family income before and after giving birth. The economic status of older, single childbearers was found to be closer to the condition of teenage mothers compared to married mothers of the same age, with white, 25 years and older single mothers having better conditions.
