Youth functioning and experiences in inner-city after-school programs among age, gender, and race groups
Article Abstract:
This article examines the experiences of the participants of youth development programs in inner-city areas. The authors, comparing age, gender, and race, found that older boys tended to have strong, positive relationships with staff members, and children of both genders, all races and ages had positive experiences of club activities and overall treatment.

Family and contexual predictors of depressive symptoms in inner-city African American youth
Article Abstract:
Issues regarding the family and contextual predictors of depression in inner-city, African American youth are discussed. The role played by current and historical life events, perceived social support from the mother, family conflict, and the maternal explanatory style in the depressive symptoms of the school-age group of such youth are discussed.
