Italy's Piedmont wine region is producing some very good to excellent wines. A vertical evaluation of the district's red wine vintages from 1978-1996 is given, and lists of top-scoring and best-bargain wines are presented. Wines are rated on a scale of one to 100.

Sassicaia wines from 1968 to 1994 are rated on a scale of one to 100, with tasting notes provided. The 1985 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia at $220 merits a 99, and the 1994 Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia (no price available) is rated 90-94.
