Once again, California faces devastating vine malady

California is facing a new vine disease, it is reported. Pierce's disease, carried by an insect, is forcing growers to replant hundreds of acres of vineyards and is causing damage equivalent to that wreaked by the phylloxera root louse in the early 1990s.
