Surfing for coupons
Article Abstract:
San Francisco, CA-based planet U designed the globe's first paperless, Internet-delivered coupons dubbed U-pons. U-pons generated an average redemption rate of over 20% based on its initial testing at eight Dick's Supermarkets in Illinois and Wisconsin in February 1998 and March 1998. However, concerns are raised whether electronic coupons would be accepted by people. Due to the initial positive consumer reaction to U-pons, Richmond, VA-based Ukrops Super Markets, which operates 25 outlets, is providing its frequent shoppers the paper version of U-pons, but the coupon system will be offered online in August 1998.
