Summary of the sixth report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC VI)

The Joint National Committee on Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure has published its 6th set of evidence-based guidelines for doctors (JNC VI) in the Nov. 25, 1997 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine periodical. This JNC VI has found a slowdown of sharp improvements in the awareness, treatment and control of high blood pressure. A major focus of the new guidelines is the recommendation of a population-wide approach to prevent hypertension through changes in lifestyle.

A summary of Physical Activity and Health: a Report of the Surgeon General
Article Abstract:
A summary of the contents of the surgeon general's report on physical fitness and health is presented. The report's main finding is that Americans can significantly improve their health by engaging in moderate amounts of physical activity. The report also states that over 60% of adults do not engage in regular physical activity and that physical activity can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and hypertension.
