Article Abstract:
The JIT II customer-supplier partnership management concept was developed and utilized by Bose Corp in 1987. The system, which is an improvement of the Japanese just-in-time system (JIT), is being reviewed and tested in other US firms. JIT abolishes inventory and the supplier and customer develop a closer working relationship. JIT II eradicates the salesperson and the buyer, and supplier establish a closer working relationship. Several operating efficiencies for both customer and supplier can be attained with JIT II.

Suggestions for making such a measurement-driven improvement program work including having regular meetings with suppliers, giving suppliers a workable outlook, being careful to use correct dates and ensuring accurate specifications.
