Catalog quietly promotes Ikea phone-order business
Article Abstract:
Ikea's order-by-phone system allows consumers to call the company for their order of items such as furniture, featured on its catalog. The retailer's summer catalog promotes its toll-free number at the end part of the publication. Orders can be sent by phone and will be delivered to the customers' homes for the store price plus shipping cost. The service, which has been available for around a year and a half, is intended to cater to buyers with no easy access to an Ikea store. Although the company does not intend to compete with true mail-order operations, it promises to improve the phone-order system along with the changing consumers.

The turn over of the 1929-founded company to the third generation Knauers has been preceded by an inventory sale and an updating of stocks. The role of general manager will be handled by 34-year-old Jeff Knauer while Lauren, 29, will take over the former job of Peggy in the areas of accessories, advertising and marketing.
