A new dataset on infant mortality rates, 1816-2002
Article Abstract:
A new dataset reporting annual infant mortality rates for all states in the world, based on the Correlates of War state system list, between 1861 and 2002 is presented. It can be used as a better proxy for economic development and as a good indicator of government respect for the welfare of its citizens.

The extent of contribution of commerce to world peace and its varying results are discusses. It is suggested that inadequacy in specifying the conditions under which conflicts can be prevented with the help of trade causes the results to vary.
