Eliminating market distortions, perpetuating rural inequality: an evaluation of market-assisted land reform in Guatemala
Article Abstract:
The study was undertaken to assess the extent of success of the Guatemalan Peace Accords signed in 1996 relevant to distribution of land. Results revealed that not much was achieved mainly due to the fact that land is viewed as an article of trade rather than a source of income to ease poverty.

Social movements and the experience of market-led agrarian reform in Brazil
Article Abstract:
The study examines the consequences of the market-led agrarian reform (MLAR) in Brazil and the political issues surrounding the fight for the land. The results revealed that the MLAR program has not met its objectives due to the demands of trade unions among others in the process of mediation.
