No take-off in pay in 1995/96
Article Abstract:
UK pay settlements during 1995-1996 remained generally stable at a median level of 3.5%, and are expected to remain at approximately the same level during 1997. Despite some overly optimistic predictions, pay increases did not move dramatically upward in 1996. The services and manufacturing industry medians actually grew closer during 1996. Merit pay awards, which have become the norm in many industries, are also surveyed and discussed.

Autumn round kicks off softly
Article Abstract:
UK wage increases continued to average 3% in the fall of 1996, with some indications of labor market weakness. Pay settlements have held at the 3% level for seven straight months, and other wage statistics have generally remained stable as well. Private sector pay deals generally are higher than those in the manufacturing sector. However, job security remains an issue even in a time of declining unemployment.
