The private sector in perspective - 1995/96
Article Abstract:
A survey of UK private sector employers indicates the influence of inflation and company performance in determining pay increases during 1995-1996. Surveyed industries include construction, chemicals, hotels, services, retail, textiles, food, utilities, manufacturing, engineering, finance and printing among others. Data on average awards and 1997 pay forecasts are provided for each industry.

Threat of surge in pay settlements recedes
Article Abstract:
Wage inflation was not an immediate threat in April 1998 according to Industrial Relations Services (IRS) studies. The IRS reported wage settlement data supported the view that wages were not surging higher. Another important factor considered was the marginal decrease in the unemployment rate.
