Poultry problems: how to do stories that make your stomach turn
Article Abstract:
Investigative journalists have discovered that a grave danger exists for Americans who patronize products of the poultry industry. Investigations have shown that a high percentage of chicken products sold in grocery stores in Wahington, DC contain toxins hazardous for consumers. Journalists who wish to do a story on this subject should find samples of the said product infected with these toxins. It is also possible to include tips on how to properly process poultry products.

Following the political dollar
Article Abstract:
Disclosure forms made public by members of Congress can be an important source for the investigative reporter looking for a story. It is through these forms that a reporter may be able to search for acts or activities by public officials that are inimical to their presently held position. Most reporters fail to see the information value these forms offer. A good journalist, however, should examine all angles in the pursuit of an investigative piece.

Remembering the outrage: (how to focus on people rather than issues)
Article Abstract:
Investigative journalists should not lose sight of the fact that it is the human element in stories that stimulate reader interest. The elimination of the human element in investigative reporting alienates readers from the story, thus defeating the very rationale for writing the piece in the first place. Another important way to maintain reader interest is to present the article in an easy to inform manner without unnecessary verbosity.
