Compaq looks inward, taps exec as new CEO

Compaq Computer Corp has appointed Michael Capellas as the new CEO after Eckhard Pfeiffer was fired in Apr 1999. The former COO and CIO was well- received by Compaq's board of directors and was instrumental in strategy development aimed at enhancing product integration with the Internet. The company is a leading manufacturer of personal computers, corporate computer servers and mainframe computers.
