Contingent work force: are full-time jobs with benefits a vanishing breed?
Article Abstract:
The UPS strike in 1997 raised public awareness about the use of part-time and other contingent workers, which has become common as more companies need flexibility. Though some people choose to work part-time, others are forced by a tight job market to take contingent jobs at lower pay rates and with few or no benefits. The contingent labor force is primarily young people, women, African Americans and students. The contingent labor force is the one place where it is still legal to give unequal pay for the same labor, though legal issues have been raised about classifying employees.

Regulating the internet: can the use of cyberspace be governed?
Article Abstract:
The rapid growth in the use of the internet has raised concerns in Washington over the need for government regulation. Issues such as copyright law, free speech, equal access and sexually explicit material are all being discussed as possible areas of government intervention. Some feel that a new body of law will be required should regulation be needed, but others feel that existing legal concepts can adequately be applied to the internet. Options being debated are discussed.
