Racism: it's in the beholder of the eye

Article Abstract:

This article describes the efforts of anti-racism crusader Jane Elliott to expose the pervasiveness and harmfulness of racist attitudes and prejudices. Relevant points include Elliott's current lecture tour through Australia, her focus on racism there, and her pioneering of the blue eyed-brown eyed method of demonstrating the evils of racism to school children, which she developed while working as a teacher in Iowa in 1968.

Australian author Susan Mitchell's latest book, "Tall Poppies and Me," is a follow-on to "Tall Poppies," and, once again, features the biographies of prominent Australian women. The new book focuses on seven women, including magistrate Pat O'Shane and festival director Robyn Archer.
