Brain researchers, buoyed by advances in brain imaging technology, are shedding new light on such poorly understood phenomena as schizophrenia, trauma resistance, and human memory processing. Several Canadian scientists, such as Alan Evans and Tony Phillips, are at the forefront of research effort.

'Opening a window': genes may play a role in homosexuality
Article Abstract:
A study of 40 pairs of gay brothers by the National Cancer Institute indicates homosexuality may have some genetic links. Several other studies have also turned up evidence supporting this claim. Some gays welcome this report, but others fear prenatal testing may be used to abort gay fetuses.

Prime Minister Jean Chretien, during a week-long trip to Asia, signed a contract with Chinese officials to build two CANDU 6 nuclear reactors to supply power for a region south of Shanghai. Some Canadians protested the contract because it was exempt from the Environmental Assessment Act.
