Utilities send out warning: pay up
Article Abstract:
A study done by the National Energy Assistance Directors' Assn (NEADA) shows that as many as 3.6 million families living in 18 states are at risk of having their utility service discontinued. For instance, more than 14,000 households in the District of Columbia area owe $6.6 million in natural gas bills. The NEADA cites rising fuel prices as the main cause for the arrears, with natural gas topping $5 per million BTU, and crude oil hitting $30 per barrel.

Greenspan says energy woes likely, but no crisis yet
Article Abstract:
US Federal Reserve Chmn Alan Greenspan announced on Apr 4, 2001, that the current energy shortfall might strain the economy for some time but dispelled rumors of an ongoing crisis. In his testimony before the US Senate Finance Committee, Greenspan stressed that the problem is due to the failure to build new power plants and transmission lines and not because of any increase in the consumption of electricity.
