Software success
Article Abstract:
The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara, CA, was able to improve the efficiency of the management of its maintenance department with the help of a software called Zap>Maintenance. Co-developed with the Kessler Group's Anne Kessler, the program enables management to monitor the hours worked by each staff member, what they spent time on, what parts were used and where they were used. It allows access to particular work orders that do not require passing through different levels of menus and remembering commands. Zap>Maintenance makes data entry significantly easier by using bar code technology to enter part, employee and vehicle information on work orders. After repairs are completed, the software then generates work orders and functions as a database of information. The software can be adjusted to suit specific needs of other organizations.

Emerging from exile
Article Abstract:
The journey to Sado Island, 64 kilometers from mainland Japan, can be made by jetfoil in about an hour. The island's tourist season goes from the end of May until the end of August. For 1,000 years, Sado was, due to its isolation, a destination for exiled unfavored individuals. The isolation also made the interest in religion intense. While the island grew in the bubble economy of the 1980s, enough of its isolation remained that this attracted tourists.

What's the snag?
Article Abstract:
Consumers need to check beef sausage ingredients or rely upon supermarket labels to insure that the beef sausages they are buying are absolutely all beef. Sometimes the products are misrepresented since they contain mutton or pork. Australia allows sulphur dioxide in fresh sausage products, but only up to 500 parts per million. Normal ingredients for sausages are at least 50% meat, flour, protein, salt and mineral salts, preservatives, and flavorings.
