The race to control pain: more participants, more targets
Article Abstract:
Several targets for developing new analgesics or pain relief drugs are presented. These include gabapentin-binding proteins, glutamate receptors, kainate receptors, metabotropic glutamate receptors, vanilloid receptors and voltage-gated Na+ channels. These targets can be exploited to formulate improved drugs that can bring relief to pain that cannot be cured by conventional drugs such as opioids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs nor by nonconventional approaches administered through N-methyl-D-aspartate and tachykinin receptor antagonists.

Presenilin mutations in Alzheimer's disease: molecular models suggest a potential functional locus
Article Abstract:
Molecular modelling of presenilin proteins indicates that the mutations seen in the development of Alzheimer's disease may cluster in two distinct domains within the interior of the protein. The largest cluster is located near the top of the putative TM domain while the second cluster lies closer to the bottom of the TM domain. The model also suggests the presence of potential functional domains.
