Can the abortion & euthanasia debates really be brought to peaceful closure? Assessing the position of Ronald Dworkin
Article Abstract:
Ronald Dworkin's book "Life's Dominion: An Argument About Abortion, Euthanasia & Individual Freedom" argues for the importance of tolerance in modern society. The priority of interests over rights implies that the state should not encroach on individual's preferences where critical interests are concerned. Dworkin suggests that the freedom and dignity of a person deserve protection from government intrusion in the name of the majority, even when intrinsic values are involved. Dworkin makes some unwarranted assumptions but provides a richly rewarding and edifying discourse.

Social responsibility, personal responsibility, and prognosis in public judgments about transplant allocation
Article Abstract:
Some people feel organ transplants should not be given to those who have, through smoking or excessive drinking, caused their own illnesses. A study showed subjects allocated scarce transplantable organs according to transplant prognosis, and the choice of allocation cannot be explained totally by the perception of the behavior, such as intravenous drug use, of the recipient.
