A glorious grand white elephant?
Article Abstract:
St Pancras Chambers, formerly the Midland Grand Hotel, is a derelict Grade 1 listed building in neo-Gothic style, completed in 1876. Its interior has been badly neglected in recent years, and there has been no interest in purchasing it even though British Rail has invested in renovating the exterior. It will soon be taken over by the business consortium which wins the bid to build the high-speed continental rail link. Its main problem is its location, in a squalid part of St Pancras.

Bridge 2000
Article Abstract:
The Financial Times newspaper is sponsoring a competition to design a new footbridge across the river Thames in London, England. This would link St Paul's Cathedral and the City of London with the Tate Gallery of Modern Art and the London Borough of Southwark. Six designs have now been shortlisted, all of which take an adventurous approach to the scheme. The bridge will be able to be very thin, and will thus act as a band of colour across the rive at night.
