Can conservation and development be coupled among pastoral people? An examination of the Maasai of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania
Article Abstract:
The new paradigm for the development of African pastoral populations which links the conservation of natural resources with human developmnet is found to be ineffective. Based on the experience with the Maasai of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania, conservation and development cannot seem to be effectively attained. While the environment in the area has been protected, the Ngorongoro Maasai economy is in a serious decline. The percentage of people unable to support themselves by pastoralism is on the rise and malnutrition among the population is increasing.

Article Abstract:
US government policies and developments in academic anthropology have had an impact on the direction of applied anthropological research studies. Since an interplay between theoretical foundations of anthropology and its applications exists, a commentary on how both disciplines could be useful in dealing with practical anthropological problems has been presented. In addition, government policies could also be used as determinants on why applied anthropology undertakes certain anthropological issues.

British anthropology in policy and practice: a review of current work
Article Abstract:
Applied anthropological research on practice and policy issues has expanded in the UK. Research focused on aid work, gender and development, overseas development, appropriate technology, urbanization, irrigation projects, health and participatory development.
