Technological progress: a proposed measure
Article Abstract:
Technological progress may be directly measured on the basis of historical data on how efficient the transformation of resources into final services is. The measure can be broken down into two parts: the thermodynamic efficiency of energy conversion into mechanical work, and the efficiency of the conversion of mechanical work into final services. The measure's first part can be estimated by sector with average accuracy, while the latter can only be estimated with fair accuracy in some cases such as transportation.

Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) in historic survival decisions of countries and corporations
Article Abstract:
Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) are individuals who make the decisions on the general direction of a company, an organization or an entire nation. CTO decisions can contain surprises of commission and omission that can have a devastating impact on the taken direction. In information technology, the surprise of commission has been determined as the assumption of convergence. The surprise of omission has been in the failure to recognize the need for a creative Internet community.

The radical uncertainty of the future
Article Abstract:
Forecasting as a science, despite the seeming improvements due to the use of computers and better prediction methodologies, will continue to be subject to future uncertainty. This unpredictability is further illustrated with the inability by any futurist to predict some of the major events that occurred during the 12 years prior to 1999. These events include the collapse of the Soviet Union, the East Asian economic crisis and even the advent of the Internet.
